CVAD15 Decontaminate the skin site with a single patient use application of alcoholic chlorhexidine gluconate solution (preferably 2% chlorhexidine gluconate in 70% isopropyl alcohol) prior to the insertion of a central venous access device [2] [Class A]
 
   
CVAD 24 An alcoholic chlorhexidine gluconate solution (preferably 2% chlorhexidine gluconate in 70% isopropyl alcohol) should be used to clean the catheter insertion site during dressing changes, and allowed to air dry. An aqueous solution of chlorhexidine gluconate should be used if the manufacturer's recommendations prohibit the use of alcohol with their products [2]
